Pakistan were 154 for nine, still 88 runs short of their target, when Haris Rauf walked out to join Shadab Khan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday. With 17 balls to spare, Rauf hit the winning four.

Shadab finished unbeaten on 113 from 96 balls, and the pair's unbroken stand of 89 gave Pakistan a one-wicket win over England in the fourth match of the ODI tri-series. It was the highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful ODI chase, BBC Sport reported, a record also noted in a report by news agency ANI. According to BBC Sport, Shadab's 113 is also the highest ODI score by a batter at number eight.

The innings that saved Pakistan

England bowled well enough to win. Jamie Overton took 3 for 43, and Pakistan's top order fell cheaply again. But Shadab, who had come into the side in place of Faheem Ashraf, kept finding boundaries while Rauf defended at the other end, scoring 7 from 19 balls.

The match turned on one review. On 97, with Pakistan still needing 21, Shadab was given out lbw to Gus Atkinson. He reviewed, and the replay showed a faint inside edge, so the decision was overturned.

Pakistan finished on 243 for nine in 47.1 overs.

England's innings

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi won the toss and chose to bowl. England slumped to 53 for four, with Harry Brook run out for 1, before Ben Duckett and Sam Curran rebuilt with a stand of more than 90.

Duckett made 105 from 111 balls, and Curran 42, before both fell. England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs, with Gus Atkinson unbeaten on 36.

Afridi led the attack with 4 for 46. Aaj News reported that his 150th ODI wicket made him the fastest Pakistani fast bowler to reach that mark. Arafat Minhas and debutant Razaullah took two wickets each.

What it means for the series

The win was Pakistan's third in a row, after victories over Sri Lanka and England in Rawalpindi, and it secured their place in the final, ANI reported. England have lost all three of their matches and now depend on other results.

It was also the first ODI between the two sides at the Gaddafi Stadium in 21 years. Pakistan's players wore pink kits for a breast cancer awareness campaign, Aaj News reported.
